10 Essential Home Remedy Supplies

The potential of getting an injury or even getting sick can increase during a disaster.

Knowing what you can use to treat the family will give you an upper hand on all those trying to get medicines for their family.

There are many different products that can be used to treat different ailments that are found in our homes. And if they are not in the home already, they can be easily purchased at a local grocery store.

We can go through out medicine stock quickly during a disaster if you really think about it. 4 adults taking 4 aspirin a day for just 3 days would be 48 pills used. You will go through 100 pills in just 6 days at this rate.

Knowing what alternative to use in place of aspirin, or even how to avoid the need of aspirin will give you the ability to treat family longer without the worry of running out of any medication.

People panic during a disaster, and this panic leads them to run to the closest store and buy up what they think they need to get through the disaster. This puts a strain on the local supply. There is usually about 3 days’ worth of stock kept in stores under normal circumstances, and during a panic this will be bought up quickly.

Medicines are one of the first items to go, but if you have your stock in your home before the disaster, you will not have to be one of the masses running out to buy what you need. This is where being prepared can save you time and hassle when a disaster strikes.

Below you will find a list of 10 items and a few ways they can be used during a disaster as well as every day, in place of medications.

Alcohol: Can be used on insect bites by rubbing on the infected area. Can also be diluted with a little water for fighting a fungal infection. It is an intermediate disinfectant and can be used to clean tools. I recommend having both the alcohol wipes as well as a few bottles of alcohol on hand.

Baking soda: This can be used to treat heartburn by mixing with water and drinking. It only takes a small amount to calm an acidic stomach. This is also great to freshen your breath, treat diaper rash, and remove oil and grease. You can also clean your countertops with baking soda. I recommend getting several boxes and storing it using the method in this blog.

Apple Cider Vinegar: This mixed with water can be used to treat diarrhea, sinuses, and indigestion.

Coconut Oil: This product has a ton of uses and just a few are treating acne and skin issues, sore throat, energy boost, sunburn remedy, skin moisturizer, anti-fungal, and an insect repellant.

Hydrogen Peroxide: The obvious uses would be to treat cuts, burns, and small wounds, but this can also be diluted in water and treat a toothache.

Raw Honey: Raw honey never spoils and can be used forever. This is a great for antibiotic uses such as treating wounds to heal faster. This can also relieve nausea.

Peppermint Oil: Best for treating headaches, nausea, muscle pain, joint pain. and many other uses. One of the best products to have on hand.

Tea Tree Oil: This is ideal to treat skin problems, earaches, cold sores, insect bites, and head lice. There are also other uses for this, and if you have school age kids you can add this to their shampoo to prevent head lice which we all know can be a headache to treat.

Aloe Vera Gel: This can sooth sunburns, improve wound healing, and prevent dandruff. If you grew up like I did, you probably had this put on burn wounds as a kid by a parent or grandparent.

Epsom salts: Can be used to treat toe fungus, pain reliever, and muscle cramps.

There are so many other uses for each of the products listed, and I could go on forever, but you can do your own research on each and discover uses I may not have come across yet. Make sure you store enough of these 10 items to meet the needs of your family, and if you overestimate your needs, you will not have to worry about running out any time soon.
